Update: 12.11am TROPICAL Cyclone Daman is expected to make a landfall any time now and tomorrow morning on Cikobia Island or Udu Point although weakening.

Director of Meteorology, Rajendra Prasad says the cyclone was still moving east at about 18 kilometers per hour but is expected to curve more southeast tonight.

''It is likely to make a fall and it could be somewhere on Udu Point or Cikobia,'' Mr Prasad said.

He said Daman was beginning to weaken in the last two hours but was still close to its centre.

The cyclone is expected to have average winds of up to 180 kms per hour with momentary gusts of up to 260 kms per hour.

Change of weather surprises officials

Update: 1.18am DISMAC officials in Labasa were surprised with what could be the 'calm before the storm.'

According to one official, the weather has suddenly quietened down with no showers or strong winds when compared to late last night.

He said police, military and DISMAC officers are on standby for cyclone Daman which is expected to hit Labasa anytime soon, but the sudden calmness has left them wondering.

The official said the office has not received any calls from Kia and Cikobia, where the cyclone was expected to hit from between midnight last night and 6.00 o'clock this morning.
